Racing Wheelchair

This experience provides insight and an appreciation for the strength and endurance of wheelchair athletes. Visitors use a custom-built racing wheelchair in a simulated 30-meter sprint. LED readouts show the current speed, distance traveled and elapsed time. This exhibit puts the visitor's physical conditioning to the test while providing a new perspective about the lives of other people.

Two-chair configurations are available. By placing two wheelchair racers side by side and linking them to the same signal, visitors can race each other in the sprint. An optional vertical cascade of LED lights can also show each racer's "position" in relation to their opponent in the two-chair configuration.
