Pulleys

 

Using the mechanical advantage of pulley systems, visitors pull themselves up with this body-on exhibit. Configurations of two, three and four pulleys allow for different amounts of mechanical advantage and effort. For safety, each chair is equipped with a hydraulic damper to safely lower the chair. By trying each station, visitors can compare their efforts and gain firsthand experience with the use pulleys as simple machines.
