Kid Powered Fan​

This activity allows visitors to transform their own physical energy into wind power by pushing a large capstan (wheel) round and round.  The capstan powers an overhead drive belt that connects the capstan to a large fan. The fan can blow in either direction—toward the people turning the capstan, cooling them as they work, and away from the exhibit toward a bench. The faster they push, the greater the breeze they generate!
