ECG

Visitors test their cardio fitness in a stair-stepping activity to gain a first-hand understanding of the connection between heart rate and activity level. Visitors first measure their resting heart rate. In an unusual twist on this experience, the read-out monitor includes an anatomically accurate, life-size animation of a beating heart that pumps in time with the visitor's measured heartbeat, also shown in an ECG readout. Visitors then step up and down a set of stairs and then measure their heart rate again. This highly visual interpretation of cardio fitness helps the visitor make connections between effort and the internal workings of the body.
