Bed of Nails

 

The visitor lies on a smooth bed with 5,000 nails lurking below. Using a push button the visitor activates a motor that slowly lifts the nails through the bed. The visitor is lifted by the nails unharmed because their weight is distributed over hundreds of points. This exhibit makes the visitor the star of a demonstration of the physics of weight distribution and unit force.
